"Wiltshire enlists Leadent for operational analysis"
![]()
Leadent consultants are working alongside Wiltshire Police operational units to analyse how its officers spend their days.
A team led by Leadent psychologist and consultant David Jones is analysing the frequent and critical operational tasks performed by officers to provide a picture of user requirements before talking to potential suppliers about solutions.
The aim of the process is to deliver significant time-saving benefits for the force which in turn will benefit Wiltshire residents.
A recent study by Leeds University Business School for West Yorkshire Police found that if mobile data access was used to get officers out on the street for an extra 35 minutes per day each, the equivalent of £8.8m worth of visible policing time was gained. In addition, it would generate at least 2,500 extra Police National Computer (PNC) checks each month.
For Thames Valley police, estimates suggest that the equivalent of an extra 140 officers are made available by provision of mobile technology.
In Lancashire, if 2,643 operational officers (up to inspector) get one hour of visible policing back per day, it equates to an additional 400 officers to the force.
Leadent is one of six consultancies licensed to work with public sector organisations by OGC Buying Solutions-an executive agency of the Office of Government Commerce in the Treasury.
The OGC’s role is to deliver value for money gains for central civil government and the wider public sector through its dedicated procurement service.
It provides public sector clients with more than 500,000 products and services under its Catalist brand and fully managed telecoms services, energy and secure email, Intranet, data transfer and publishing services.
